Crime / Israel Claims That The South A...

Israel defended its Gaza offensive at the International Court of Justice, arguing South Africa's request to halt Rafah operations and withdraw from Palestinian territory is "completely divorced from facts and circumstances."

South Africa's case against Israel is criticized for mocking the international treaty banning genocide, which requires all countries to prevent such acts. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has granted South Africa the right to make the case.

South Africa's court has previously rejected Israel's demands to dismiss a case against Palestinians, ordering them to prevent acts of genocide. Pro-Israeli protesters gathered outside before Israel's presentation, demanding their release. The South African legal team framed the Israeli military operation as part of a genocidal plan.

South Africa's ambassador to the Netherlands has requested the court to order Israel to withdraw its army from the Gaza Strip, following an Israeli assault on Rafah. Israel denies the allegations, stating that its operations are aimed at Hamas terrorists using Rafah as a stronghold. South Africa's ambassador argues that the alleged violations are not evidence of illegal behavior or genocide.

The court's hearings focus on issuing emergency measures, with a decision expected next week.

Crime / UN Top Court Is Holding Hearin...
Last post by Abdullah - Yesterday at 11:50
South Africa has requested the UN's top court to stop Israel's military operation in Rafah, Gaza, where over half of the population seeks shelter, marking the fourth time the country has requested emergency measures since claiming genocide.

South Africa has requested the Hague-based court to order Israel to withdraw from Rafah, ensure unimpeded access for UN officials, humanitarian organizations, and journalists to the Gaza Strip, and report back within one week on how it is meeting these demands.

Israel denies committing genocide in Gaza and focuses on sparing civilians. Judges ordered Israel to prevent death, destruction, and genocide but did not end the military offensive. In March, they ordered Israel to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, including opening more land crossings.

Gaza's 2.3 million population has been displaced since the start of the conflict, which began with a Hamas attack on Israel. South Africa initiated legal proceedings in December 2023, comparing Israel's policies to its own history under apartheid. Egypt plans to join the case, citing Israeli military actions as a violation of international law and humanitarian law. Only Libya, Nicaragua, and Colombia have filed formal requests for intervention.

Last post by Abdullah - Yesterday at 10:50
The Arab League has called for UN peacekeeping forces in Palestinian territories, citing the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, until a two-state solution is achieved.

The Palestinian declaration calls for all Palestinian factions to join the Palestine Liberation Organization, stating it is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. It demands an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, halt to forced displacement, and end to siege. The declaration condemns attacks on commercial ships, ensuring freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.

Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa called for an international conference for Middle East peace and reaffirmed his country's support for the full recognition of a Palestinian state and its UN membership. The UN General Assembly overwhelmingly backed a Palestinian bid to become a full UN member, calling for a unified international stance against the Palestinian state's challenges.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman urged the international community to support ceasefire efforts and halt Palestinian aggression during his opening remarks at the Arab League Summit, emphasizing the Kingdom's efforts in alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Emir Of Ilorin Been Accused Of Sending A Muslim group To Dismantle A Mosque That Hosts Christians. The Muslim group stormed a worship centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, housing both Christian and Islamic services. They acted on Emir Ilorin's instructions, revealing the center was originally a mosque.

A delegation led by Olojatuntun, a man from Alubosa, Ilorin, has criticized a mosque in the town where Christians, Muslims, and traditionalists worship. They emphasized that such practices, which contravene the rules of the forefathers of Ilorin, should not be tolerated.

The group is urging the Emir town to avoid a mix of religions and to encourage people to practice both. They are not threatening to destroy the town, but are urging the mosque owners to stop. A video shows a woman, Iya Meta Lokan, who is a devoted Muslim but started ministry using the Christian ways. She claims to have been called by God to teach both Muslims and Christians.

In 2023 Malcolm Omirhobo, a Lagos-based lawyer and human rights activist, sued the Emir of Ilorin for allegedly stopping traditional religious worshippers from holding their Isese festival in Ilorin, Kwara State, claiming it was an affront to constitutional rights to freedom of dignity, thought, conscience, religion, expression, and peaceful assembly.

July last year, the PUNCH reported that the Majlisu Shabab li Ulamahu Society warned a traditional religion priestess against a planned Isese festival in Ilorin, aimed at celebrating Yoruba deities.

Crime / Hezbollah Launches A Strike On...
Last post by Jamiu2 - 2024-05-15 22:31
Hezbollah, a Lebanon-backed group, launched numerous rockets at Israeli military positions in northern Israel following the assassination of its senior field commander, Hussein Ibrahim Makki.

Israeli warplanes targeted a car in Tyre, killing Makki and two of his companions. Makki was a Hezbollah chief's databank and a strong arm of Syria's Hassan Nasrallah. Israeli radio reported a large-scale attack from Lebanese territory and continued rocket fire on Meron Base.

Israeli media reports claim that a volley of 50 rockets is the most intense attack since the war with Lebanon began. Israeli artillery and warplanes shelled Jabal Balat and Aitarun, while Hezbollah shot down an Israeli espionage balloon over Rmeish. Israel's policy involves systematic destruction of border villages.

Israeli media reports show significant losses and damage in the north, with over 140 houses destroyed in Metula and five soldiers injured in Adamit. Lebanon is concerned about the potential expansion of conflict in the south and the presence of 2.1 million Syrian refugees on its territory.

The MPs approved a recommendation to form a ministerial committee to develop a comprehensive plan for refugees' return, excluding cases protected by Lebanese law. They emphasized Lebanon's inability to be a country of asylum and mandated legal measures for handing over prisoners to Syrian authorities.
