Ciroman Kano, the first son of Emir Sanusi II Turbans

Family members, friends, and dignitaries flocked to the Kano royal palace on Friday to watch Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, turban DSP Aminu Sanusi Lamido as the Ciroman Kano.

According to LEADERSHIP, a crown prince and heir apparent in the Kano Emirate system are traditionally given the title of "Ciroma," which has great historical significance. It also comes with obligations, such as managing specific Emirate districts.

Until his death in the 1990s, Ambassador Aminu Sanusi, the grandfather of the new Ciroman Kano, DSP Aminu Sanusi Lamido, retained the same customary title. Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, who was removed in 2024 after serving as the Emir of Bichi, was the most recent holder of the title. DSP Aminu is now the 17th person to hold the esteemed title.

During the ceremony, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II stated that his son was selected due to his community service, philanthropy, and loyalty. "I decided to give him this crown in recognition of his kindness and generosity," the Emir said.

He also commended DSP Aminu's work at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), his contributions as a police officer, and his academic accomplishments. In addition, he urged him to imitate the virtues of discipline and respect, saying, "I urge you to walk in the path of righteousness they have paved."

DSP Aminu Sanusi thanked God and the Emir for the honor in his acceptance speech. He said, "I express my gratitude to His Highness for this honor and promise to serve the Kano Emirate with diligence."

Numerous well-known people attended the event, including clerics, holders of traditional titles, prominent businesspeople in the state, Kano State Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf and his deputy, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo.
