US and Israeli sources claim that Israel's attack on the Islamic Republic last month damaged a covert Iranian nuclear weapons research center.

The facility, located 20 miles east of Tehran, is reportedly being utilized to develop the explosive mechanism required to set off a nuclear bomb, according to US authorities.

According to the Institute for Science and International Security, three additional nearby buildings that were being used to manufacture solid fuel for ballistic missiles were also destroyed by Israeli strikes.

According to earlier reports, Taleghan 2, a component of the Parchin military complex, was shut down in 2003.

However, early this year, US intelligence identified Iranian scientists working at the site on projects that would "lay the ground for the production of a nuclear weapon."

Few were aware of the site's objective.
According to US and Israeli sources, this involved computer modeling, explosive testing, and metallurgy.

Only a few people within the Iranian regime knew the true objective of the Taleghan 2 facility since it was so covert.

It was classified as a high secret. A small part of the Iranian government knew about this, but most of the Iranian government didn't," one US official told the Axios news site.

After activity was detected at the site, the US sent a private warning to the Iranian regime. It was hoped that Iran would then cease operations, but nuclear activity continued, officials said.

In July, the US director of national intelligence delivered a report to Congress, which warned that Iran had "undertaken activities"

Last Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared, "Iran is not after nuclear weapons, period."

Trump's approach of "maximum pressure"
Since Hamas, supported by Iran, launched the October 7 strikes on southern Israel in 2023, Israel has been embroiled in a multifront conflict.
The next day, Hezbollah, which is also backed by the Iranian government, intensified its strikes on Israel from Lebanon.

Additionally, militias supported by Iran have often fired on Israel from Iraq and Yemen.

Israel and Iran have also launched direct attacks on one another. Israel attacked Iran on October 25 in reprisal for Tehran's October 1 mass missile assault on the Jewish state.

The Iranian delegation to the UN, according to Axios, declined to comment on its claim.
